Hi - I've today got the latest Vegas Pro after many years since using Vegas software (maybe not since Vegas 4). Anyway, I'm sure I'm going to have lots of questions in the coming weeks and hopefully there'll be a few souls who'll have the patience to help me out!

Anyway, a really simple query first (or maybe not): Initially, I'm going to be creating vids for the firm I work for to go on YouTube - can anyone tell me the ideal dimensions, file type, res etc for pictures to fill the screen? For instance, merely an image of the company logo? Hopefully this makes sense.

Thanks in advance for any help.

All the best

Max

The last company that I worked for had a large collection of file types of different pixel dimensions. Probably, the most useful were transparent .png files. If you get the official "corporate logo" package, select one at or above your Vegas project pixel dimensions and resize on the timeline using the Pan/Crop event fX. Be sure to always Lock Aspect Ratio. Corporate types get jiggy about playing fast and loose with the company branding.

@john_dennis +1

I like to use png files at about twice the resolution of my Vegas project. Prepare them in Photoshop before adding them to the project.

Thanks for your help, fellas - now another dim-witted question. I've put in my transparent .png - and the background is black. I cannot find the bit where you change the background behind the image. I'd like it white. Is this even possible? Seems I remember very little from my Vegas 4 days. Thanks.

I think it's helpful to keep in mind that the high def screen size is 1920 x 1080, so if you wanted your image to fill the frame, that would be the size you'd want without having to resize it. If you don't want anything to show beneath your video, then .jpg would be fine, but otherwise you can use .png files, which is what I generally use. I do think it is best to prep and size you pics in PS or another program before you bring into Vegas. Also, I actually like to think of Vegas as being Photoshop Lite because you can do quite a bit of image manipulation in Vegas and save out both .jpg and .png files. So if you have a .jpg file and want to convert it to .png, you can do that in Vegas simply choosing the file disc icon on the top menu, the Save Snapshot to File option. And of course, you can bring in pictures at much higher resolutions than 1920 x 1080 and crop and resize them in Vegas down to 1920 x 1080 or even smaller if you wish.
