Import a Premiere CS6 project?

Can Vegas actually import a Premiere project created in CS6 or this just a marketing gimmick that does work and never will? I've tried with no luck. It imports only some of the files and does not create a timeline in Vegas.

I also get the following log message:

Exception Message: startIndex cannot be larger than length of string.
Parameter name: startIndex

Never has worked for me when I have tried to collaborate with PP colleagues. Export has been somewhat OK but import results in the same sort of gibberish list that I have tried to parse but failed. It is not a feature you could rely on so I agree, it is just a marketing gimmick.

I ended up bringing in a crippled version into Vegas by exporting as an AAF and importing into Vegas using the Import> Media option. I also had to remove everything from the Premiere project before exporting that was not on the timeline including a transparent video clip from Premiere because it caused Vegas to crash on import.

I then had to manually select most of my video and audio clips on import and still Vegas still did not see most of the audio which I had to rebuild on the timeline.

For the most part a total mess but it beats rebuilding the entire project from scratch.

Thanks, Marc

In my testing, The actual issue is if you have multiple timelines within the PPro project it will error out every time. I've discovered through trial and error that you have to delete all the other timelines within the project, and move the various assets out of their bins to the top level, save the project as a new project file and then import into Vegas Pro. In addition you need to remove any title graphics generated in Ppro otherwise Vegas import throws error messages about those missing or something similar.

HTH,

Cliff

That would explain why I was able to bring in a crippled version after removing all other files, timelines, bins etc.

Thanks, Marc

I also forgot to mention ALL transition effects on both video and audio.
