Can I get capture codes from a client's wishes froma an Excel S/S into VidCap? I'm struggling here lads and lassies . .I don't know the proper pro words . . I just know there is an Edit Details View in Vegas Edit . .is there something similar within VidCap or some type of "sideways apparoach to allow me to "bring-in" a client's Ins and Outs wishes? Yeah? Does this make sense?

TIA,

Grazie

Can't you capture the tape, bring that single capture into Vegas, and then cut/paste from Excel into the Edit Details? In other words, I don't think you have to put your client information into the capture, but rather do it after the fact within Vegas.

I just tried this, and it took a few minutes to figure out how to do it.

1. Capture your footage.
2. Copy your client's time information from the Excel spreadsheet.
3. Bring up the "Edit Details" view in Vegas, and select "Markers" in the Show drop down list.
4. Here is the key: Click on the blank button that is at the upper left intersection of the row heading and column heading. This will select the entire Edit Details area.
5. Press "Ctrl-V" and your times will be pasted into the Edit Details dialog, and markers will be created at your edit points. You can then use one of my scripts (at Sundance) to convert markers to regions and several other similar conversions, so you can use these markers for quick editing.

I'm not sure I follow your exact question. If you want to show a spreadsheet in Vegas, you can use "print screen" on the keyboard to copy what you see on the monitor to the clipboard. Then open a photo editing program, such as photoshop and "paste". Save the file as .jpeg or any other accepted media format. Use Vegas to import your media, you will see the spreadsheet and what you saw on the monitor. Zoom in to eliminate what you don't want to see. Let me know if it works and if this is what you wanted.

AHHHHH that's it! I knew it I knew I knew . . .I've done the Edit Detail View with Markers. The thing you just did was the lateral stuff . .I DON'T NEED TO CAPTURE a thing .. I can Edit against the makers . . oh we are TOO good . . thanks JM . . another Star in the Vegagian Firmament . . . . woooosh!

another Star in the Vegagian Firmament

Vegagian Firmament? I still eat meat.

P.S. I edited my first post a few times to add some additional detail. You might want to go back and re-read, since I think I made it clearer.

Electromen - Thank you , but no. It's getting the edit info from a client into Vegas without too much psuh and pull . . making life easier for me .. I'm gonna give her a VHS with the timecode running so she can nicley sit there with her Excel S/S on her la[top and make the necessary Pick 'n Mix .. yeah? The psreadsheet into Vegas we did sometime back . .that was a good thread too I seem to remember . . wobbly horizontal lines and all that - yeah?

Grazie

The only way I can think of is to capture the whole tape. Then use a script to import your IN/OUT list from a text file and then batch render the resulting regions. It's an extra step and takes extra disk space but there won't be any recompression so it would work in a production environment. Might want to check the scripting forum to see if someone already wrote something.

It's seems like it would be a common task - but I asked here before and no one had an answer. Hopefully V5 will have this "Pro" feature built in. I've had people ask me about it who were used to doing this kind of thing with Avid products. Must happen all the time. Client hands you a list of I/O points. What are us Vegas users supposed to do with it?

- Ben

EDIT: I see someone else had a similar idea. Markers to Regions. That works. Hadn't thought of it. Cool idea.

Now if we could only generate batch capture lists somehow...

You might find this VEG helps with putting the timecode on the screen:

John . . what can I say . . ? Thank you . . very much. I'm good to go with t/c onto the VHS as I can send the miniDV out through the new Panasonic with the T/C being displayed, just need to record it on the VCR as it is playing through - yeah?

I can go forth and get the T/C back from the client . .
