Import DVD from Handycam - using Plat 7

I am trying to import footage shot on a -R disc from my DVD handycam. The camera goes into USB mode, but the software is not recognizing it's out there. I do not have any of the handycam drivers installed. I uninstalled it per the instructions with Plat 7. Any ideas on how I can pick off some footage without finalizing the DVD in the handycam?

Thanks!!

What software won't recognize the camera? VMS? If so, that would be expected. Your camera should have come with some software that you can use to extract information from the DVD.

Yes, but they even tell you to UNINSTALL the driver that came with the handycam software so it does not conflict with VMS. So, VMS "should" recognize the camera. Both are obviously Sony products too so it even says they are compatible to do this in the documentation.

I use a program called CD-Roller that lets you copy data from an unfinalized disc to the hard drive, and writes a copy on the drive as if it had been finalized. It's also great at extracting data from damaged discs. It was pretty cheap, and it's fast and works well.

My version of VMS7_Plat doesn't say un-install it as a direct statement. In other words, mandatory.. It says "IF" you have problems reading your handycam drive from within VMS then un-install the drivers. After un-installing the drivers you will still be able to access your drive.

I would install the drivers back and test it.

Hi Jucs,

for the DVD handycam - you just need to finalize your DVD and then put the DVD in the ROM, go to File - Import - DVD Camcorder Disc.
