Imported Graphic file format

When I create a graphic for V4 in PhotoShop, I always save/import as a .psd file. I've noticed in several posts that others are importing as .tga and .png. Is there an advantage to this, or is it just a "different strokes for different folks" situation? I'm quite pleased with the way the native PS files import, but would certainly be open to trying something that was better.

PSD is a proprietary Photoshop format while TGA and PNG are standard formats that (almost) all image editing applications support along with their own proprietary formats. I don’t use Photoshop (can’t afford it) so I prefer PNG files myself. I use several imaging editing programs and they all support PNG as does Vegas.

I don’t think there is any advantage or disadvantage to using PSD’s since Vegas does not recognize the layers and just uses the image as if all layers were collapsed to one. Both PSD's and PNG's are lossless. I would keep using PSD’s if it works for you.

PNG is a 'native' format for VV so it makes sense to use that.

tiffs, particularly if they're large can cause VV to run at snail's pace, when I've had to use them I found VV ran much better if I converted them to PNG in PS first.

I've taken to using pngs out of photoshop elements, into particle illusion, and back out of PI into vegas. Get some outstanding text animations among other things. I'm not sure if psds support alpha channel, but can't say for certain at this hour of the am. Excellent quality. DGrob

Thanks for the feedback. I will stick with PSDs, but now have a better understanding if why others prefer other formats.

DGrob, just to let you know, yes- PSD files support Alpha Channel. V4 actually recognizes any degree of transparency, or any transparent layers, as alpha channels. For me, this is a time saver as there is no time spent creating an AC.

Thanks Again

PNG's and TGA's are best for use in Vegas. PNG's have a slight color shift whereas TGA's don't seem to. Render time of the two formats is negligible. .tif files require QT as a format reader, therefore slowing down Vegas significantly, and causing color shift at high frequencies.
