Importing AC3 into DVDA creates weird edit line

Hi - I'm pretty good with VMS Plat8 but just tackled a surround sound project exporting out to DVDA 4.5 .

The weird thing is that I can preview my AC3 project inside Plat8 and the sound is visually represented properly in the edit line and is played in stereo on my stero PC.

OK when I review my project inside DVDA the sound file is represented on the audio line as 90% on one track and 10% on the other. If I listen on my PC speakers it comes out that way as well.

BUT if I then render and burn a DVD the sound is presented in full glory surround sound on my home theather system

What gives ? I checked my properties on DVDA to make certian that it is set to a surround sound project. I have also scoured the manual .. with little success.

I must a something set wrong .... perhaps I need to add tracks to my DVDA edit line ???

I'm clueless

thanks Vincej

1st off the ac3 waveform display in DVDA is a convenience -- it doesn't really do anything -- you can't edit ac3 if you wanted to. I've seen the waveforms look off even with some stereo ac3. That said, if you want to double check your 5.1 file to make sure it's Kosher, convert it to 6 .wav files and see what they look like [check videohelp.com for conversion software tools].

If the sound corresponds to the waveform display I'd start looking at routing issues. First guess is maybe your ac3 is Lf C Rf and I believe (though not sure) DVDA is expecting Lf Rf Lr Rr C LFE.

Weird behavior though.
