Importing an image with transparent background

I'm trying to make an image with a transparent surrounding (for instance, a picture of a person's face in the middle of a 720x480 size image) that I can use in VV3. I'm using Ulead's PhotoImpact and can't find an answer at their forum sites. I can't seem to render a PNG from PhotoImpact with an image in the middle of a transparent background. The background always comes out white when used in VV3.

I want to use the image on the upper track for Track Motion. The still image would not fill the entire frame of the track motion...only a portion...like the head of someone "appearing" next to another person else...Like using green screen chroma.
Anyone have PhotoImpact experience with this in VV#?

Thanks,
Steve Nichols

You might want to try right-click->Properties, on the still image after you import it into Vegas, then go to the Media tab. Make sure the Alpha Channel combobox is set to something other than None or Undefined.

Phil:
Tried that but the area surrounding the center image itself isn't becoming transparent. I think the problem is in PhotoImpact...or should I say my lack of experience with PI. I can't find the settings in PI to render out a transparent background. I'm hoping one of our VV Forum folks will use PhotoImpact and have the correct settings.
Thanks,
Steve

I figured it out. Images must be rendered in "True Color" and the "Matte" selection must be "None". PhotoImpact from Ulead is pretty cool. Most of the difficult stuff in Photoshop has been dumbed down and that makes this much easier to use. Graphics "purists" will stay with Photoshop but us "got to have it now" types will like PhotoImpact...and it's only about $90.00!
