It sounds like it may be a resource issue. Remember that AVCHD crams four times as much video data into a file about half the size of standard DV, and it takes a lot of power and scratch disc space to work with them.

So make sure you've got ample space on your drive and that your drive is clean and defragmented.

Thanks for your reply. I have the maximum amount of ram available under 32 bit Vista and 2x 2.O GHZ Xeon cpus. Surely that is enough power to simply load an avchd movie into DVDA5? Drives are defragged and ample space left.
