Importing avi clips encoded with Xvid?

Hello everyone,

I am trying out the demo of Vegas 6 and am very interested in buying the program, but have run into 2 rather annoying road blocks.

1) With clips encoded with Xvid, Vegas can not "see" the video stream of these clips and this also happened with a few Divx clips. The codecs are installed properly and I can view/decode/encode with them using other programs and the clips were encoded using standard settings for the these codecs.

2) Unable to import any media source with MP3 audio (being a mp3 audio file or avi file with audio stream encoded with mp3). Is this an additional plug-in or other means to get this functionality? This seems like a rather severe limitation and am assuming I am doing something incorrect. I have the basic MS mp3 codec and the LAME mp3 codec installed.

Thanks for any help with these issues. Other than this, this program has seemed fantastic so far and by far the easiest to use NLE.

Cheers,
Tom

Tom,

Welcome to the forum and the world of Vegas. If you click on the search tab towards the upper right and search Divx, it will return many threads that have covered the problem and the solution/workaround ;)

Also I think the mp3 codec doesn't work in the eval version, that's something you get a licence for when you buy Vegas, same goes for the mpeg-2 codec.

Hello,

Thanks for the post and I did try searching for Divx and Xvid and tried again now with no results returned. Not sure if I am doing something with the search, but I tried just the keyword "divx" with no hits.

Good to know about the mp3 license with the full version, seemed so strange that the program couldn't handle mp3.

Cheers,
Tom

Make your life easier by converting the footage to another format, like DV or AVI uncompressed or huffyuv or animation.
