Importing .AVI files

Hey all!

I recently bought Vegas Movie Studio, before which I had a 30 day free trial and it was amazing! One thing I loved about it was that I was able to import any kind of file without problem: avi, wmv, mov, mpeg, whatever.

But after buying and installing the program, I can only import wmv. Most of my files are avi, so I have to render them in Windows Movie Maker as a wmv before I can import. It's a real pain in the rear and then I have two of the same file, and to top it off, the wmv is low quality and out of sync.

How can I import avi files?

I am at a loss why you were able to load AVI XViD/DivX files before and now you can't. In fact, VMS8 does not support XViD. I can only suggest you make absolutely sure you have the latest version of 8.0, which is 8.0d. Download and install that updated version. It might work.

VMS will use the codecs that are installed on your system, next to the VMS proprietary codecs.Try to remember if you changed anything to your system related to codecs. A 'system restore' may have the effect you describe. Consider installing the K-lite codec pack (free), though some users on this forum won't back this.

Lastly, make sure you have the latest Quicktime installed, as VMS seems to use quite often its libraries.
