importing image on a seperate layer makes it Screen and look weird

when i try to import an image over a video on a separate layer it always looks weird ( trying to add screenshots of comments for a Q&A video) cant seem to find a way to disable the compositing effect or the "screen" effect. not sure how to go about this PLEASSEEEE HELP

There are many compositing modes. Source Alpha is the default, and the one you'd want to use for what you are trying to do.
