Was wanting to add some of my PowerPoint presentation to my videos, but haven't been able to find how to import it. Can a PowerPoint file be imported as video, or how can I do that?
No. A power point can be exported from PP as a series of stills. The videos would require extraction and reinsertion to the still image pages.
The metadata contained in Powerpoint presentations doesn't carry over to tools like Vegas.
You can set up the show to self play with pre-determined timings, in a window rather than full screen, then re-size the window to suit your video resolution. Then capture the whole thing to a video stream in a program like Camtasia. I have re-edited the results in Vegas without any problems.
Most straight forward way is to us an I/0 card -- we use the ATI 8500DV card -- that will output PowerPoint to your DV deck. Run the PP program and caputre it to tape, then import the tape in Vegas like you would any other video.
We do this quite often for businesses that want to distribute their PPpresentation on tape, or that want to edit video material into the PP presentation, add VO, etc. We also do a great many PP-tape-Vegas conversions for people who have created photo montages at home and want them on tape.
You can also aim a camera at an LCD screen and capture the presentation flicker free from your camera directly into your editor. Remember to set your white balance and focus manually.
Once it's captured you can add video clips and edit to your heart's content. We do this quite often with excellent results.
Using Office PPT 2003 or PPT 2002, you can add the free Producer download and make an AVI from your animated original. There are other capture methods, but this export tool is engineered by our betters at M$ for this exact task. So apart from selecting your target res. - it is an easy sequence of steps.
