importing raw avi no image shows!

I'm trying to bring raw avi into Sony Vegas Movie Studio. But no image, only audio, displays. In Adobe Premiere the image shows, but exporting to mpeg from Adobe Premiere LE is very dicey, a 3% success rate so far. I have Windows XP Media on my Sony Vaio. The raw avi is on a Maxtor external drive, USB 2, but i've also made copies on the hard drive in case that's an issue.

Boy was it an ordeal signing on to this forum after an absence!

All AVI's are not created equal. Sounds like this AVI is likely using some codec which Vegas does not have access to. Where did this AVI come from?

I had them transferred from a digibeta tape, and specified raw avi. I thought that meant no codec was involved? (Thanks for responding)

Do you know what system (hardware/software) it was captured by? Certainly some capture setups WILL add their own codec into the mix.

Hi, Your responses put me on the right road. I went back to Premiere and output an avi from my raw avi, then took that through Premiere to make the mpeg which worked in Sony DVD Architect. Only hitch was the temp file nearly took out my system because I didn't notice it was going onto the C drive, (which on this Sony Vaio is relatively small and filled.)
