Importing via s-video

I've got a 4 or 5 year old minidv insult that Panasonic calls a camcorder. In the distant past, I'd import to my dad's XP desktop via firewire, but now I've got a new laptop without firewire, with there apparently being a huge NO non ridiculous way to go firewire to USB. But aparrantly s-video ,which both my camera and laptop have, is OK. I was hoping you could recommend the name of the cord I'd need, and whether or not Vegas would automatically detect it as if with firewire (This is v7 for XP, running pretty well in compatibility mode under Vista).

Thanks!

S-Video and HDMI on laptops usually are for output, not for input. I am afraid you will need to buy an expresss card or pcmcia firewire card, they are cheap.

I got a 2-port 6 pin firewire PCMCIA card at newegg.com for under $10 with free shipping. I use it for capturing from my Panasonic camcorder on my laptop all the time.
