Improve V9 load time - any possibility ?

fultronix wrote on 1/15/2010, 2:03 AM
I would like to use Vegas for audio only.
Is there any way to stop loading video components so as to speed up the start time for Vegas?
Or to put it another way - is there anything that can help speed load time for Vegas ?
If I go back to earlier versions of Vegas that load way faster I have problems with some audio pluggins, so I would like to keep using V9 for access to them.
Any help would be much appreciated

How often do you start up Vegas that this is such a problem? On my main editing PC the only time i ever launch Vegas is after a reboot, which might be 8 or 10 times a year.

wow! is 6 sec a problem? your time must be really valuable ;-)

alternatively, your computer needs upgrading ;-)

I guess you already disabled Media Manager?

Btw, V9c was truly faster than previous ones regarding loading.

It takes a lot longer than 6 seconds for me. On a dual-core 3GHz box, with media manager disabled, it's probably 30 or 40 seconds. Still not earth shattering. Even on my 1.3GHz laptop it's less than a minute.

For me, the 32-bit version is close to a minute. However, the 64-bit version is MUCH faster - closer to 6 - 10 seconds.

all your render/ pan/crop/ track motion presets take time to load. Also any plugin chains slow down the loading (I have a few hundred plugin chains, greatly increased Vegas 8 loading time, also increased loading time if I hit the "fx" button on events).

ok, just to confirm - i7 / 920, 6gb ram. (win 7 64bit) NO mm.

cold start - 25secs

thereafter - 6secs.

So I am back to this after a RIDICULOUS day with Ca. DMV to find all these responses. Thanks to everyone.
Yeh I know it's a bit of a silly issue but I am helping a client set up his laptop for video editing (including a clean install of XP). It's a Core2 at 1.6GHz and 2Gs of RAM. So in this process there have been plenty of restarts.
Anyway the client was asking me why Vegas seemed to hang on loading. The progress bar stops for two10 second periods and takes 50 seconds to load on a cold start and 25 seconds thereafter. I have kept his pluggins to a minimum and even removed them as a test with no significant diff.
I was just surprised by this as I am personally still using V6 which seems almost instantaneous.
And I am looking forward to doing some audio work with V9 to see what improvements there are.
Thanks again

some programs just take time to load... XP takes ~5x longer then Vista does (wife's duel core vista laptop goes from turn on to desktop in ~30 seconds, my quad core XP desktop takes ~1:45 just to get to the user selection menu).

I read that a faster graphics card assists Vegas? Yes? Maybe this is reflected in load times too?

. . joke . . . .

I'm a little bit surprised by some results posted here.

Dell inspiron 9400 (T7400 dual core @ 2.16GHz), stripped down Seven 64 ultimate, 4G Ram, internal HDD upgraded to 320G black scorpio. Checking after a system restart I get:

First launch of VP9 64: 14s, subsequent ones: 5s

8c is even faster:

first launch: 7s, next ones 4s

I use media manager.
