I recorded someone speaking in an outdoor stairwell with the on-camera microphone (my wireless was acting up). Her voice sounds very hollow compared to the voiceover I recorded inside. Is there is anyway to enrich it within Vegas as I have no other audio editor? thanks.
Well a stairwell has its own characteristic echo just being a stairwell. Is the dialog
understandable? If not, you may need to rerecord possible hang curtains below and
above the talent to block some reflected sound. You may try some EQ killing some
low end.
NOTE: if this is a public building this also is a fire escape and you may need to
record off hours for safety.
EQ is your friend here. Use the Vegas Track EQ to add some fullness and reduce the other effects of the stairwell. I wrote a tutorial on this subject which you can find on the DMN.
Essentially, try boosting around 300 Hz, finding the "room" by sweeping the freqs and then cutting that, and putting a high pass at 100 and lowpass around 10k (called shelfs in Track EQ).
