In Cam Down Converting: Which One?

I have 3 modes and 2 actual options for my captures. I am unsure of which one to use: Squeeze or Letterbox.

I normally edit in HD and downconvert via Vegas, but that is not an option this time.

I am unsure what squeeze does but it sounds like it would make everything look tall and skinny. Maybe I am wrong. I know letterbox adds the black bars. What would be the best option to use out of those two for it to come out looking like it would if I was downconverting in Vegas to widescreen standard def?

Widescreen DVDs are anamorphic. In the NTSC world, they are 720x480 and the DVD player expands them to 855x480 for playback. To get the same effect from your downconversion, you want to use Squeeze, not letterbox.

Just one more tip. It's very common for the downconvert to miss setting the 16:9 flags. If you do get tall, skinny people don't freak, just correct the aspect ratio in the media properties. Best place to do this is in the media pool.

Thanks guys.

I will not be touching this footage. I just got done shooting (all day from 6am to 9pm). They wanted footage for a commercial and promotional material, but they have another editor so all I am doing is sending it off to him. I was going to send him the M2T files but he didn't want to fool with the conversion (using slipstream or whatever you called it Bob), so I am sending him AVI DV files on a hard drive that he will edit on a pc system.

You know, the more I do this kind of event stuff, the more I wonder why I am still doing weddings. Makes me think...

Thanks for the help guys,
