In-editor playing

When I apply the Deform filter to the entire clip (to remove distortion from my GoPro footage), the in-editor playback doesn't work smoothly. I found the preview quality dropdown and that was helpful enough for the first video I worked on. But now that's not good enough: titles on top of the corrected video still choke it and I can't see if the effect I set up looks right when playing!

Is there a mode to have it think about it first, then play smoothly? In my old copy of Premere, that was automatic and it cached the rendered frames, so the second time I played the same region (without having made any changes) it worked fine.

There are two selective prerender modes in Vegas -- prerender to file, and RAM preview.

I couldn't figure out what prerender-to-file did — must be totally different in concept from what I was looking for? Docs don't explain it, just say it does it. What is RAM preview and how do I get to it?

In your Vegas Help, search:

"Selective Prerender"
--and--
"Dynamic RAM Preview"

They both do what you need; the RAM preview is limited to short sections.
