Well, they're letting upgraders add a pack of NewBlue FX, a Sony Sound Effects sampler, or Sound Forge Audio Studio until June 30th. And I keep hearing about a $50 preorder discount, though I still haven't figured out if that's before or after the quoted $235 price.
They may or may not offer their standard $100 early-bird discount, though I wonder if the above incentives are replacing that this time around.
From what I understand, from the forum and the admin sticky note, is the $235 is before the $50 discount, so you can actually get it for $185 now (for the download version). Plus the add-on packs mentioned above.
I'm not sure there are any specific incentives that won't be available later but it's all how you look at things.
I make a living using Sony Vegas. I make a good living using Sony Vegas. I want Sony Vegas to thrive and succeed and carry on with many revisions in the future. If I didn't, I wouldn't EVEN CONSIDER upgrading to the next version! I couldn't wait to ante up and pay what amounts to a measly .65 cents a day for a year.
Sony treats its customers VERY FAIRLY as far as I'm concerned. IMO, if you're making a real living using Vegas why wouldn't you want to feed the horse that is helping to feed you?
On some of the other threads I've never heard so much whining in my whole life. It's not complicated. If you're not successful in life using Sony Vegas, then go find another product that can help you become successful. Frankly, if people whine about a $250 upgrade, IMO they've got no business in this business. You should be able to make that amount of money before lunch. Otherwise, your really just clogging up good bandwidth on this forum being a pretender.
I don't like whining either, but I'm also not a fan of snobbery. People who don't "make $250 before lunch" are just as welcome here as those that do. In fact, I would wager that they're the majority.
@erikd: There are also a small minority of us (myself included) who don't make a living with Sony Vegas. It's the best consumer editing software around too, and even though I'm making "home movies" with it, the Studio version isn't enough for me.
That being said, Vegas has worked great for me since version 5, don't have complaints except for what I don't understand how to do, and this forum and others have been great helping to answer those questions.
Your point is well taken though, as a business expense, a few hundred dollars per upgrade isn't bad at all. At my small healthcare business, each yearly (almost forced) upgrade is about $5,000.
I paid $184.95 for the download only upgrade (including my "free" item which is also a download) . No problems. It's figured automatically before you finalize. I doubt it will get any better than this for a long time. They have not charged my credit card yet either and probably will not until May 11th when the download is available. I don't see any advantage to placing the order prior to May 10th, but after May 10th the ugrade price will likely go up $50 but I don't see any disadvantage either as they will not charge you for the upgrade until May 11th. After June 30th no free item. I say the time is now that's why I went ahead. It's a reasonable deal and I've yet to be disappointed in a Vegas upgrade. I'm deeply invested in Vegas and I'll admit they have me!
No snobbery here. I said, "if they whine about a $250 upgrade IMO then they've got no business in this business." This is a conditional statement of if/then. No whining, no problem.
You get an incentive to pre-order a product that will ship 11 May. The offer is good until 30 June. Huh?
Who says it's an "incentive to pre-order"? Maybe it's just an incentive to order...by June 30.
Anyplace I've seen the extras ($50 discount, additional software), it's just been marketed as a "limited time offer." Nothing about it being a "pre-order offer." (Granted, I never did get the e-mail mentioned above, and that link only leads to an order page for me.)
Bob's post and my response are referring to how the incentives (the $50 discount and the free software) are being marketed by Sony and perceived by the customer -- whether they are specifically associated with the pre-order period or are limited time offers that just happen to partially coincide with the pre-order period.
Bob questioned why they were considered "pre-order incentives" when they're still valid after the pre-order period is over.
My point is that, as far as I can tell, Sony themselves does not refer to these extra incentives as "pre-order incentives" or "pre-order offers." Even in the sticky you mention, the $50 discount is tied to an "introductory period," something they have always had (just a shorter period and with a larger discount). In fact, I don't think they mention any incentive for pre-ordering. You can order May 12, and you will get exactly the same thing as anyone or orders May 10.
Well. I'd say that dead horse is sufficiently beaten. Shall we move on?
Yes, the $50 discount applies to VMS9 to VP9 upgrades. I just went through the process, other than paying, and it is applied at checkout -- same as if you were upgrading from a previous Vegas Pro.
