Short of a hardware change what are the best settings/methods for increasing render time in Vegas through the options menu?

Also from what I have seen it seems that you save more time by rendering the audio and video separate and then "muxing" ? them together with say Nandub. Now this doesnt work on all audio/video formats unfortunately.
