Incredibly Loud Hiss!

Suddenly I'm getting an incredibly loud hissing upon recording guitar tracks - wasn't getting it yesterday.
Did I fix something that wasn't broken again?

Did something change in the gain structure? If you have a pre turned up loud, but have a mix input turned down low, this can generate hiss. All things must be reasonably balanced. Could your Windows mixer have been adjusted for the Soundcard input?

I have a little mixer called Eurorack by Behringer that I am not too friendly with as yet but I discovered that by applying the Smooth/Enhance filter I could remove it entirely!
I guess it will juLike you said it will take some fusin' about with the mixer.
