Inexplicable buffer problem

I have a relatively new NT machine with 128 Mb's of RAM, a 350 MHz processor, and 10 Gb's of
storage. I'm trying to burn a CD that is 61 minutes long, and I keep on getting the buffer
overrun error, even after taking all of the "fix it" steps outlined in the manual (shutting down
processes, turning the .cdp into a .wav, different CD-R media, etc.) The only thing I didn't do is
the defrag because I understand this procedure is a real pain in the rear with NT (3rd party
software, etc.). What's really stange is that when I do the test burn, everything is fine. Then,
when I actually create the CD, it bombs out with about 5 minutes of processing left. I realize this
is a huge file, but I was wondering if anyone else had encountered a similar problem. I have
been able to create smaller, shorter CD's, so it's not a standard misconfiguration problem.
Would buying extra RAM help?

Thanks
Charlie
