Insert a still (jpeg)

WayneM wrote on 3/17/2009, 11:39 AM
I inserted a JPEG still image using Insert Media. Does exactly what I want it to do EXCEPT it only appears for 5 seconds. I have been unable to find a setting to chage either the image timeline or the default. I can change the start and end points but not stretch the image object on the timeline to make it appear longer.

I've dug thru all the menus and also the Help database to no avail. HAte to have to go back to Vegas to create this!

Thanks,

Wayne

Where did you insert the still, Wayne?

If you just dragged it into your project so that it will link from a menu page or if you're trying to use it as introduction media -- yes, you only get 5 seconds.

But there are a number of ways to use a still that give you more control. Adding it to a picture compilation, for instance (even if it's the only thing in the compilation). Then you can set it for whatever duration you want.

Thanks Steve. I had done just the Insert Media and selected the file. I'd never had reason to insert an image before. I'll give the picture compilation a try. It sounded like there was some sort of per work that I needed to do to build a compilation. I'll dig into that.

While I'm at it what I'd actually like to have would be a series of stills (sounds like a compilation :-) and be able to click a button to go to the next image.

Thanks again,

Wayne

I don't know that that type of slideshow is available in DVD Architect.

This might be a better alternative, if you're looking for a slideshow software that's powerful yet easy to use.

I actually own the product you mentioned. Not sure if it is the latest version, but it uses that annoying dongle. You really can do some unique things with it, but the interface takes a bit to get used to and it had some quirks, A screensaver I made with it was beautiful, but after it ran for a while it seemed to crash most any machine it ran on. Seemed to have a nasty memory leak.

More in a different reply. . .

One final thought, does anyone know of a way to insert a still and have it displayed until a button on screen is clicked? I thought maybe I could get a 5 second still to Loop but that didn't seem to work either.

I also tried the picture compilation. Could find no way to set default length past 5 seconds and wasn't able to lengthen a picture past 5 seconds (seems you have to move the Chapter marker) without shortening the folowing still.

I guess i'm not sure if you're putting this still in as part of a bigger project that contains other stills, other video, or both. I think perhaps i would add a new menu page, set it's background to the still you want, point the end action of whatever comes before it to that menu, and put an invisible button on it that links to whatever you want to come next. That menu with your still will appear when the previous item ends and it will remain on the screen until the user presses the enter key on the remote.
