Inserting Text Problems

I got Vegas 4 + DVD for Christmas this year, and it's time to put it to use.
When I try to insert text over my film (with transparent background) the screen to edit the text does not appear.
The bottom left goes into the "trimming mode" and I dont see anywhere to enter or edit the text I want.

I know how to enter text in Video Factory 2.0, so I am editing the video in that, then rendering it and editing it in Vegas.
When you insert the text in Video Factory, a screen pops up and you are able to enter and edit your text easily.
I think I may be missing something.

The project is due tomorrow, and things are going just fine, but I would like to know how to insert text for the future.

Also....is there anywhere I could download backgrounds for my DVD (preferably free, but I'm willing to pay $$)?

Using Vegas 4

Click Insert - Video Track should have a new track above your video

Click Insert - Text Media SAMPLE TEXT should now appear over your video
in the preview pane.

Just left of the preview pain should be Video Media Generator click on the
edit tab and type away. The other tabs will allow you to move the text and
add shadows etc.

Backgrounds - I like to take an image from the actual video, blur it.
The DVDA has some backgrounds in the themes folder.

My Video Media Generator window was not tall enough for me to see the editing options.

Should i get vegas 5?
Is it worth the money/does it have alot of new features?

There are 3 things I like about DVDA2, multiple audio streams (another
language or directors commentary), subtitles (for hearing impaired),
custom highlight masks (fancier buttons).

Vegas 4 was great and solved most of my needs.
3D text is a cool new feature.

Depends what you want to do. Upgrade pricing is good now.
If you want to create some cool video but can't afford building real
sets. Look at an animation program to round out your abilities.

I would go for it but keep 4.
