Instagram Render Settings

I have been fighting with this for so very long, and some help would be greatly appreciated! There's lot's of information online about this, but I need (and I believe it would help others) an updated 2018 guide to Instagram with Sony Vegas. I have DSLR footage that I have edited in Vegas. It's all shot at 1280x720 @60fps. I am sort of under the impression that the video needs to be rendered at 640x360 so that Instagram doesn't compress it themselves? Which render profile/settings should I use? I am currently using dropbox to transfer edited content from my PC to my phone, is that going to interfere? (most of my videos are unable to be posted once in my camera roll until I re-render them with no changes in like the iMovie app, and suddenly instagram likes the format)

You didn't state which Vegas Pro render template you're using to output your finished file. Please post screenshots of your Vegas Project Properties and your Vegas Render As template to include video tabs and audio tabs.

Facebook (Instagram) is very explicit about the specs for ads that run in stream and I would take some guidance from there. There is also a link to a chart that describes acceptable aspect ratios and orientations on that page.

While external encoders like Handbrake do a fine job, we don't yet know of a reason that you can't render an acceptable file using one of the Vegas Pro encoders such as the Sony AVC/AAC Internet template or the Mainconcept AVC/AAC Internet template. Both templates can be customized to varying degrees to meet pixel aspect ratio and bit rate targets.

I'm skeptical of the requirement for rendering to 640 x 360 to avoid having a remote server re-encode your upload. They may encode everything no matter what you upload.

Full Disclosure:

I don't Instagram and would never knowingly associate with anyone who does. I have encoded many, many videos to meet all kinds of requirements, though.

One more thing. FileBrowser for i Devices will allow you to navigate to a shared folder on a Windows PC from your i Device and transfer the file over your local network to your Camera Roll. Dropbox shouldn't be necessary for that kind of transaction.

FileBrowser was the first app that I bought when my daughter gave me an iPad.

I just go with SonyAVC Internet Template / Magix AVC Internet Template, and let it render to one of the templates (except set the frame rate as 30p in your case) ... but I guess FB / IG / YT will recompress them.

If you are transferring file to Dropbox, the file will not be changed.

For Portrait video of Instagram, I go with 720x900

For Square sizes, the original size I use here is 1080x1080.

Hello. What is the new render settings (format) to use for Instagram videos in Sony Vegas Pro 17?
