install error

we are pulling our hair out trying to install vagas platinum 9.0b into our new laptop ,windows vista service pack 2.
Software install gets close to the end ,then the following error appears:
moduleC:\program files\sony\shared plug ins\sfppack 1.dll failed to register.HRESULT -2147010893. contact your support personnel.

we have downloaded and installed the microsoft visual c++ 2005 sp1 redistributable package (x86)

but still not working

we have downloaded trial version of sony vegas and installed fine in our desktop pc , when we even try to install the trial version in the laptop we still have the same problem,

please ,please help

Have you tried installing as 'administrator'?

If the C++ package didn't fix the error, nothing we can say here will. Re-install your Vista on your laptop to get a cleaner operating system and then install Vegas. I have no better solution to this.

I've been having the exact same problem, and I have tried the same things you've tried with no luck. I'm seriously tempted to reinstall Windows Vista, even though my Dell computer is only two weeks old. Can I ask have you been having similar problems with other video/sound editors? Because I have had trouble installing other video/sound editors, I think it may be the video and sound plugins failing to register.
