I have Vegas Pro 12 and DVD Architect 6 I am upgrading to Vegas Pro 17 and latest DVD Architect, should I uninstall the old versions before installing the newer software?

You don't need to. All versions can separately exist. Personally I would keep all until I'm sure the new versions are working okay for me.
