Installing from a Vegas Pro Upgrade Disk

I have a Vegas Pro 8 - Upgrade version that I need to install on a new solid state drive as I upgrade from Vista to Windows 8.1.

This is going to be a clean install. My Old C:/ drive will be saved but it will just have data on it. No dual boot.

As I recall when I installed the Upgrade back in 2008 or so I think I needed an earlier version of Vegas to verify that I was entitled to use the less expensive upgrade disk.

I can't find an earlier version of Vegas. Not sure why. I just can't find it.
But I'm pretty sure I registered with Sony. Probably did. Maybe did.

So I need some advice:

1. Do I need an older Vegas disk to complete the install?
2. Would my Sony registration get me out of this fix if, in fact I did register 8.9?
3. Am I stuck?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think Sony has ever offered an upgrade version that needed previous version authorization. Their upgrade functionality has always been that a previous serial number was needed *ONLY* to get the discount, and after that there was absolutely no difference between an upgrade license and a regular license. So, if you're having that issue it's probably a license you bought from a 3rd party and would require their assistance if you have problems.

If you registered your previous version then you should be able to go to My Account / My Software at the top of this page and get your serial number.

Trial, update and upgrades are full versions.
You can use your registration info to activate it.

I am not aware of any stripped down upgrade version of SCS software.
If that exist then it is new to me.

If you have your serial number you can download & install the latest incarnation of VegasPro8 = V8.1 (which is an update of VegasPro8.0 for 64bit Vista) available at

Thanks. It turns out that I am registered for Vegas Pro 9. So I can just download it from Sony.

Thanks.
