Installing Vegas 7

So finally took the plunge and upgraded to v. 7 from v. 5 so I can work with HDV from my new Canon HV20 (my previous camera DVX100 works great with Vegas 5 -didn't want to mess with that and, as I describe below, still don't.)

1. I haven't read the SONY ULA but I assume I can still install my downloaded app on both my desktop and laptop?

2. I've already install Vegas 7 on the laptop. It's running Vista and other than having to uninstall Sony Media Manager and MS SQL Server app which conflicts with Vista and was giving me all kinds of headaches, Vegas 7 runs great on the laptop. One question here: I captured 4 different clips of HDV video from my HV20. Scene detection properly split them in Vegas. There are all basically the same scene - a talking head, minimal movement etc. On one of the 4 clips, the preview is very choppy. The other three, very smooth. Almost exactly like the DV previews I get in Vegas 5 on my desktop. Having not worked with HDV material before, wondering if this is just an anomoly, or if .m2t files are subject to erractic previews (remember: the clips are all the same scene, with minimal motion so that one clip shouldn't be more taxing on preview than the other clips.) Anyway not a big deal but just curious. On to my real question...

3. I'm in the middle of editing a DVX100 project on my desktop using Vegas 5. What are the ramifications of installing Vegas 7 on the same machine? I want to avoid any disruptions in editing the current project. Given what I know about Sony Media Manager, I don't think I need it and given the stability issues that seem to pop up around it, I don't think I want it. During the installation of Vegas 7 on my laptop I noticed there was a break in the action when Media Manager was about to install. While they don't ask if you want to install Media Manager, can I just hit "cancel" at that point in the installation routine to avoid installing it, or will that affect my Vegas 7 install as well.

4. I'm assuming Vegas 5 and 7 can happily co-exist on my desktop machine. Or are there conflicts that may arise which will make me regret doing it. And assuming there are no conflicts, should I stick with Vegas 5 for the remainder of my edit on the aforementioned DVX100 project? Or just open the .veg in v. 7.

Am I being overly paranoid here? (Rhetorical question - my shrink says I'm overly paranoid about life in general, not just here ;-) )

#1. As long as you're not using both at the same time, it's OK with Sony.

#3. It should be OK but, to be on the safe side, I'd wait until I was finished with the current project before updating to avoid any potential conflicts.

#4. My old machine had Vegas 3 through to Vegas 7 and DVDA 1 through to DVDA 4 with no conflicts. They all get installed in separate folders.

Nope. Just cautious :-)

I'll just add one caution, which is that if you save a .veg file in version 7 it won't ever open again in version 5. So, if you do try out 7 then make copies of your version 5 .veg files first.
