Usually, the cause for the VST scan to stop is that there is a VST plugin installed on the computer that is not compatible with Vegas Pro.
The general advice on the forum over the years is to clear 3rd party VST plugins out of their folders (i.e. move them to another folder elsewhere on the computer) and progressively or one-by-one re-introduce them to their folders and re-open Vegas Pro each time until the Vegas Pro VST scan stops - you should then be able to identify the problem VST plugin.
Yes it is probably a third-party plug-in that is not loading causing the scan to hang. Start by moving the third-party <.dll> plug-in files out of the search folder and adding them back in a few at a time to ID the offender. Re-scanning the VSTs (Options> Preferences> VST Effects) and a Vegas reset can resolve the issue. in some cases.
I honestly can't believe this is still going on. The last time I bought Vegas, which I have been using since v2, this was the reason I bailed. I just couldn't deal with this stupid hanging workarounding half measure.
And I just upgraded to 21 and its the same thing. Now it doesn't like UJAM. And even though that is deleted everywhere, it is still hanging on it because maybe it isn't flushing its own cache, and it isn't bypassable. God in heaven devs, just fix this. How many people have abandoned your awesome product because of this one, initial block? Fix it.
This process clears the cache as long as the 'clear cache' option is selected.
Please take into account that not all VST plugins are compatible with Vegas Pro or other NLEs for that matter. Some VST companies provide a list of DAWs and NLEs with which that product has compatibility.
I know that. But that is precisely my point. Its a constant workaround. Someone will have to come to these boards to read your post. It is so unnecessarily tedious. Just have a 'cancel scan' button like Resolve. And have an option to not scan next time.
If that exists - why is it nested 10 layers deep?
Vegas really needs to hire a UX person to audit this user. I have been trying to find the 360 viewer icon that I have seen somewhere, in the manual, on YouTube, or in the UI - nowhere to be found. It's not a checkbox in preferences that I can see, and I have to know to use an esoteric FX - tiny planet? Scene rotation? Who knows?
I know this is a bit of topic creep, but really it isn't. Vegas is investing in improvements to catch up to the modern world, and its UX is going to sink again if it doesn't get savvy.
You can't program your way to adoption. You have to check in with the user experience.
Firstly, Vegas should not scan vsti instruments, which are hardly ever needed. Secondly, it should be possible to load Vegas without the Vst effects being scanned, so that they can be selected manually in Vegas. I'm using Vst from the beginning (in the nineties) and it has evolved in a more stable format. Vst's working in standard Daws should work in Vegas. I really hope this to be fixed before Vegas 30😇
If you could just load cakewalks index files and not scan the plugins that would be nice since I have them organized instead of having them all sorta jumbled up. Think someone gives away usynth just to trip the software up... moving the plugins creates problems in other software esp if the plugins have been used in a project. I don't even have all my plugins there because I lack disk space.
