INTERLACE PROBLEMS

Hi all, new to this program. (Very nifty!)

Question: I use a Miro DC30Plus with an external monitor
which works fine in the dreaded Premiere 5.1c.

All is well in Vegas Video 2.0a, except that I have to be
very careful about how I slide clips around in the timeline
when editing!!!

Mixed Fields result between clips and in some cases wrongly
interlaced frames occur throughout the event/clip. (When
using fit to fill on an event, for example.)

I have to re-edit each cut to make sure this is not visible
upon rendering.

NONE of theses effects are visible on the external monitor,
but can be seen on the program's Preview window.

One final twist: after carefully re-editing by sliding each
clip (as needed, around the timeline by sub video frame
increments) everything will look fine BUT if I move/copy the
entire sequence toward the back of the timeline (say, for a
new version)I can introduce the problem again.

Every cut will have a mixed field. If I slide this new
version around eventually it likes a frame it lands on and
the problem is fixed again. NOTE; If the entire sequence
is moved forward or back by three video frames it is fine
but any other multiple and the problem re-introduces itself.

IT DOES NOT SEEM TO MATTER WHAT THE SOURCE MEDIA'S "EVENT
PROPERTY VIDEO FIELD DOMINANCE" IS SET TO: UPPER, LOWER, OR
PROGRESSIVE. IT SEEMS MORE TO MATTER WHERE I SLIDE THE DAMN
THING. AND YES I'M SNAPPING TO THE VERY BEGINNING OF
THE VIDEO FIELD ITSELF (GRID IS SET TO TIME CODE, SNAP TO
GRID ENABLED, ETC.)

Anyone else have this problem?

This is not a bug- it's working as designed. If you have a cut and
the first event ends before the half way point of that frame, we have
to mix fields from the two events.

You will notice the mixed fields appear only when you are stopped on
one of the field-blended areas- during playback everything will look
fine.

Thanks Dave BUT:

A) During playback I CAN see this effect in the Viewer

B) After render (but not before) I ALSO SEE it on the External
Monitor.

Most importantly, I forgot to make clear before that both the
pre-rendered-viewer-only and the
rendered-file=both-viewer-and-external-monitor observations of bad
interlacing EXTEND beyond just one frame: they seem to involve the
entire event!

Still perplexed,

Matt

Duh, oops Dave.

The Original Media Field Dominance was mismatched (by me) in my
Project Render settings. ("none" originally;but render setting set to
upper field first).

Feel REAL smart.

Thanks for your help.

Matt

We've seen a number of people get confused about field order, what it
does and how it's supposed to be set for different editing scenarios.
For OHCI/DV, LOWER FIELD FIRST is the correct setting for media
interpretation, projects, and DV rendering.

More information about this can be found in the Vegas FAQs:
