Invalid path error dialog

justinmadison wrote on 12/5/2009, 9:38 AM
I receive an error dialog “Invalid Path” with the message “Read only or invalid path. Please correct it.” When I use the tools->burn disk->Burn Blu-ray Disc” dialog. I am using the “Render image only” radio button option.

I have looked at the registry settings and I cannot figure out what setting contains the path this dialog box needs. Does anyone know? I have email tech support several times and I never receive an answer from them.

I am on Win7 using the 9.0c build 895 64-bit version.

Are you by any chance using Avast anti-virus?
I got this same message just after the latest version was installed.

I use McAfee. I disabled it and tried again and it still does not work.

Sounds like there is a problem with the file path listed in the Image Parameters section. Click the Browse button to see where Vegas is trying to save the file (click the dropdown at the top of the window to see the full path). Maybe that folder doesn't have write permission. Try browsing to a different folder and see if that works.

Make sure you don't have the render loop region checkbox checked, unless that is what you want.

that was my first idea. I tried several different paths that I know were ok. It still does not work. I also looked for any default paths in the setup dialogs. I can not find anything that is incorrect

Just for grins I selected the "burn image only" radio button and selected a known good iso file and my dvd writer. The eject button works so I know it is seeing the writer.

It still gives me the same invalid path dialog. I can't figure out why it would need a path for any background processes. Is it trying to create some kind of a temp file somewhere?

This is driving me crazy

" Is it trying to create some kind of a temp file somewhere?"

I *think* so. Check through the options for the setting for the temp file location.

Under options->preferences there is an entry on the General tab for a temp file location. I have tried several without success. It even tells me I have 90 Gig of free space in the folder.

The 32 bit version of 9.0c has many path entries in the registry. I looked at all and they were OK. The 64 bit version does not have the path entries. Neither version works for me

Can you as the current user create, edit, delete files in the same folder? Simple test, open Notepad, type a few words in and Save As into the same folder. Then try to delete the file.

I maybe leading you up the garden path and wasting your time, I only run XP 32bit but very recently I had a major drama even with that which required outside tech support to move heaven and earth to correct a problem with Group Policies. Nothing to do with Vegas but I'm now well aware of how some things in Windoz can get messed with. In this case no amount of registry editing would fix the problem, we had to download some hack program from MSDN to create the registry entry and then we could use gpedit to restore priveleges.

All good ideas. I changed to a new folder where I created some new projects, copied a test video file, rendered an .avi file all without problems reading and writing to the folder. I even created a new windows user with full admin privileges and tried using that account. I still cannot use the burn blu-ray dialog.

Really weird

What if you try to render to a standard DVD instead of Blue-Ray ? Try a very short clip of some sort in a test show and render to standard. See if it is a problem with the blue-ray side of the rendering or rendering in general (ain't technology wonderful ??)

Ok, I have made progress. If I use my D drive to render the image it works. ļ If I use the C drive it does not.

I created a directory on my C drive. Created a new project and saved it there. Copied a m2ts video file to the directory. Used the File->Render As menu command to render an avi file there. All without problem. I still cannot render using the blu-ray dialog or burn a blu-ray disk from that folder. I have checked all of the permissions on the disk and I have full control for both drives

How weird is that?
