This is a fairly new computer; Compaq Presario SA4000T. The burner is a dual layer burner, but the media I am using is Single layer. Also, I can burn with other applications.

Anyone know whats going on here???

I tried doing some searching and apparently that's a DVD burner from LG Electronics. They apparently have no new updates for that particular model (GWA-4083B), nor could I see anything for that particular Presario model.

Did this DVD burner come with the system or did you install it yourself?

Try different media, preferably a name brand rather than generic; some burners don't like certain blank DVD media.

HP/Compaq's website is a confusing mess (although I bet Carly loved it - why did it take them so long to give her the boot?).

However, if you do a search on the HP/Comaq site for the burner model number, you will find the following update:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=pv-27020-1

I'm not sure that will actually solve the problem, but it's worth a try I suppose.

Thanks Guys. I updated the firmware and yes, Compaq's support site is terrible. I still get the same error message, however. The burner came installed with the computer. Odd thing is: I can burn fine with other apps. But since I paid for this software, I hope to get it working.

Any more advise would surely be appreciated!

A quick search of the forum for "SFMMCX'" revealed that problem is either:

1) The kind of media you use.
2) A conflict with the Promise RAID controller. See: http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=22&MessageID=342546

Therefore, I recommend that you:

1) Ttry using different media
2) Update your motherboard BIOS (since the RAID chip is on the motherboard, the motherboard BIOS update usually updates the RAID BIOS as well). You can find the BIOS upgrade at the page Iacobus linked above.

Sony

Those are the ones I have used lately.

Well, I have updated the BIOS and still get the same error. I'm almost ready to give up on this software. Any other ideas? I will try different media next.

Thank you.

You probably have to contact Sony tech support at this time. I would say there is a conflict between your system and DVDAS. You changed your system and that didn't work. Now it's time to try changing DVDAS. Hopefully, by reporting your bug, they will create an update to the program that will solve your problems.

IMHO DVDAS needs an update since I too am unable to sucessfully burn a DVD. My problem is much more subtle. Everything seems to complete successfully, but the DVD can't be played on any player - the menu will load and then freeze. My workaround is to just "prepare" a DVD and actually burn it using Roxio. DVD's play fine then.

When you burn with Roxio, what files do you burn? I dont have ROxio, but I have Sonic.

I know Prepare creates the files needed to be burned, but not sure what they are.

The following FAQ from VideoHelp.com does a good job explaining DVD file structure:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvd#struct

DVDAS will create those .VOB files in a directory. Just burn those files to a disc using UDF file format and you should be good to go. The nice thing about Roxio is it automatically switches to UDF when I try to burn VOB files. I don't know if Sonic (RecordNow?) does that so you might have to dig into the help/manuals.

I'll give that a try. Thank you for all the help!

I do a search of my drive and cant find any .VOB files!
txHarleyMan wrote on 6/11/2005, 4:56 AM
I re-Prepared to create the .VOB files again.

What do I need to do in order for the dvd with the vob files play on a tv set when the dvd is entered?

Did you manage to sucessfully burn a DVD?

Are you having problems playing it in your player?
txHarleyMan wrote on 6/12/2005, 4:03 AM
Yes, I was able to burn a DVD using Sonic. I burned the .vob files. When I put the dvd in the player to play, a windows explorer window opens.

WHen I try to play the dvd in a tv set, it wont play.
discdude wrote on 6/12/2005, 5:26 AM
Did you burn just the .vob files? If you did, that won't work.

When you use the "Prepare DVD" function in DVDAS, it creates a directory with two subdirectories, "video_ts" and "audio_ts".

In the "video_ts" directory, there should be a bunch of .vob and .ifo files. The "audio_ts" directory should be empty. In spite of that, you have to burn both the "video_ts" AND "audio_ts" directories to your DVD.

So, in the end, your DVD should have a "video_ts" and a "audio_ts" directory.

txHarleyMan wrote on 6/13/2005, 10:14 AM
AH! I didn't do that. I only burned the .vob files.

I will burn the folders And files this time.

Thank you.

Well, when I burn a DVD using Sonic Record Now, it works fine. Still cant burn with DVD Arch Studio, though.
discdude wrote on 6/26/2005, 6:43 AM
That's the boat I'm in now.

I prepare stuff in DVDAS and burn it with Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator 6.

I think Sony badly needs to issue a patch for DVDAS.
