I don't have a 3GS yet, but Quicktime Pro should be able to read it and export to any format you like.

Have you recently update your Quicktime?
If so, you need to roll back to 7.6.2 or earlier.
Do a search of this forum for a wealth of information.

musicvid,

There is no WEALTH of information because the problem hasn't been fixed! No dialogue whatsoever on problem resolution. There is absolutely NO information on this subject other than rolling back to QT 7.6.2.

In theory, the Pro 9.0c update should fix this problem as one of it's many bug fixes was:
* Fixed an issue reading QuickTime audio when using QuickTime 7.6.4
No one has commented yet though so I have no idea if this is indeed a guaranteed cure.

Unfortunately that doesn't help any of us who use Vegas Pro 7 or 8. Followed to its logical conclusion, this may be construed as a very subtle, unethical way to force people to upgrade as far as I'm concerned. Especially when any version 9 fix could probably be rolled down to 8 and 7 with minimal expense.

It will be interesting to see what happens (or doesn't).

If rolling back to a version that works with Vegas 7 or 8 is not practical for you, you are welcome to plead your case with Sony (IOW, don't shoot the messenger). I am fairly certain that Apple did not contact Sony before issuing the update.

QT 7.6.4 has caused a plethora of problems, not just with Vegas users, so I'm just going to stick with 7.6 at least until my next Vegas upgrade, which may be some time.

If you are interested in more in-depth discussion of these issues than is available in this forum, you could head on over the Apple Quicktime forums and join in the many discussions of those same issues there.

For me, I do not believe it is Sony's obligation to issue patches a full year or later after the fact for previous versions, or every time Apple decides to monkey with its software, which hasn't worked right since 7.14. Even if Sony did issue such a patch, it still wouldn't be sufficient reason for me to install the latest, greatest version of Quicktime and iTunes.

Totally agree with you musicvid. But given the money dished out for Vegas and Soundforge releases, as well as three 32 gb iphones for the kids, it would be nice for a change if one or the other would show a little humanity and fix the mess up and down the other side without having to bicker about ownership.

I know. I know. We live in a capitalistic world.
Christmas is coming you know!
Hoho!

thanks everyone... ya I did update to a new quicktime.
I probably won't role back. I managed to convert it to an mp4 though, itunes.... imported that and just grabbed the audio from it and matched it with the original video. I think that's what I did. I can't fully remember right now but it worked.

You can't expect old versions of software that came out 2 and 3 years ago to support a product from a third party that just came out.

Also I think you are seriously underestimating the cost and complexities of making sure a fix to the latest build also works in a software build from three years ago.

Your suggestion would increase the QA time by 300%. To do what you suggest you would need a full QA cycle for Vegas 7, another for Vegas 8 and the last for Vegas 9. And since you aren't selling 7 and 8 any more, you are not going to recoup those costs. Why would you need QA for 7 and 8? Because, you will need to make sure your "minimal" fix does break other parts of the software.

What you are suggesting is beyond the responsibility of a software development company. Their responsibility is to make sure that the latest release is stable and the fixes/new features don't cause other problems.

You're saying it's unethical that users with older versions don't have the benefits of the latest development on the product. It's actually fairly straightforward, SCS spent money to create the latest development and the users paid money to upgrade to use those features. It's up to you to determine if upgrading is worth it for you, but if you decide not to upgrade, you can't complain you didn't get the latest features.

I have always enjoyed watching old Buster Keaton movies.

In 9.0b, I can import the files but audio does not play unless I revert to Quicktime 7.6.4. In 9.0c, I can't even import the files. I get an error that says:

Warning: an error occured while trying to open one or more files.

The reason for the error could not be determined.

Has anyone else seen this?

I have no problems whatsoever moving an iPhone video to Explorer, then drop it on the 9.0c timeline. Works fine...including audio.
