I attended the local Digital Video Users' Group last night and saw a demo of H.264 and MP4 files running on an iPOD which was feeding an XGA video projector.
Even though it was being projected on a wall with an image about 48 inches high, I was very impressed with the quality. It was smooth and very watchable. Room conditions were less than ideal for making any real judgement of color and contrast.
While I guess there is no way to feed the video out without the docking station, it does offer a very compact way to store several hours of video.
