If by "static" you mean the Boris Generated Media, then the reason you cannot change the length is because it represents an single image (i.e., one frame) and can never be anything more that a single "static" frame. You use the event in Vegas to adjust the length just like you would a single JPG image placed on the timeline. Just drag it out to the duration you need.

hi johnny

yes its a gen media static i would assume that it could be used as a noise generator for examp [caustics] for water and animate it the same way as with noise texture to create fire for example to use the alpha channel to animate png's or text.

if its just a simple pic whats the point? there has to be more to these boris statics

thanks for your reply i dont want to scare you but i think we are the only 2 people out here

Seems to me it does exactly what one would expect from a tool called static.

"Static" in this case does mean "not moving".
But pretty poor choice of words perhaps as it can also mean "noise".

Ain't English a great language.

No, they are static backgrounds, like gradients and clouds or even titles, etc.

If you want to animate one then drop an Empty Event on the timeline and add Boris FX as an Event FX. Then you can load up any Boris preset you want (or create your own) and animate to your heart's content.

Statics came about because people were complaining that there wasn't an easy way to use Boris for titles. Like I said above, if you want to make a static title you had to create an empty event and use Boris Graffiti or Boris RED as an FX. Statics are the perfect answer for this. Just drag and drop and you're done. You can create presets of your favorite title layouts and have consistent titles in no time at all.

Now I realize that Boris FX doesn't do titles, but Boris Graffiti and Boris RED do so it makes a lot of sense for those plug-ins. Also we are spoiled by the media generators in Vegas. Other NLE's rely on plug-ins like Boris FX just to make a simple gradient. So it makes a lot of sense in the larger scheme of things.

Well, i think the point is that Boris Statics does work exactly the way it's intended too. You are simply expecting more than it offers.
