Is Canon 5D firmware 2.0.4 incompatible w Vegas

Rich Parry wrote on 4/6/2010, 11:28 AM
I installed version 2.0.4 firmware for the Canon 5D Mark II and now find the video portion is blank (black) on the VP9c timeline. The new firmware adds support for 24P and changes 30P frame rate to 29.97 so extensive changes were made to video. The video on the VP9c timeline for both HD and SD is blank (blank). Audio is OK. I can play the video on an external app like QuickTime, so I know the video is good.

I never had this problem with the old firmware. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Rich

Sounds like you inadvertently updated Quicktime. Any version of Quicktime past 7.62 will give you black instead of Video: not just from Vegas but from any editing software. There was just an update to Quicktime the other day and you may even have it set to update automatically. What I suggest you do is uninstall Quicktime and reinstall the older 7.2 version off http://www.filehippo.com/download_quicktime_player/File Hippo[/link]. After you do, you will also need to install an older version of iTunes and turn off the automatic update in the Quicktime and iTunes preferences. Yes it sucks, but it is a Quicktime problem not a Vegas one.

Laurence,

The problem with 7.62 is that it is not compatible with the latest version of iTunes. I installed 7.65 (I am running Vista 32 bit) and both the latest iTunes and Vegas Pro 9 are back to their normal behavior. One point to mention though is that 7.65 is not on the Apple site; one needs to google for a location.

Rich,

I also have the 2.0.4 firmware on my 5D Mark II and Vegas reads the MOV files without a hitch.
