I'm glad to have heard of your experience with alignment drift in this camera. I've run into several people with the same problem. One answer is a DSR 2000 VCR, it'll track anything but you'd buy a few cameras for the price of one but in your situation it may be worthwhile having one in the kit.
That combined with aperiod some years ago where the local agents didn't have a clue how to service a camera gave the XL1 a bad rap in this town.
Mind you none of the owners who had those alignment problems thought them bad enough to jump ship, I guess XL1 owners are a bit like Vegas users.

I agree though, Ive yet to here much wrong with the DVX100 unless you're a gun and run kind of guy. Actually, having to spend the time setting the camera up wouldn't be a bad thing, kind of forces you to spend a bit more time thinking about the other aspects of the shot as well.
