Is PluginPac causing FX problems?

BillyBoy wrote on 12/29/2002, 3:21 PM
What I'm about to describe isn't a isolated problem. I've seen it at least several times in different projects but I can't recall it appearing PRIOR to installing the PluginPac filters. I would have mentioned it before, but I wanted to rule out my doing something to cause it. I'm confidant now having seen it again under controlled conditions to say it isn't something I'm doing and is clearly something happening in Vegas.

The sympoms are:

If you divide a source file into several events then drag filters such as Levels, HSL and Color Curves, with or without any of the PluginPack filters being applied, I've seen these filters drop out either indvidually or in combination, somtimes with the Event FX button on the timeline changing from green to gray. What's curious is there seems to be no pattern to how/when/why this happens. It is further disturbing is the effect of the filter seems to remain... however any visual clue other than eyeballing the event, shows no indication of the filter being applied, which could result in applying it again.

Another problem that may or not be related is the cursor jumping outside the event you are working on when clicking on the FIRST KEYFRAME button in the Video FX window.

Has anyone seen this or similar symptoms?

I have seen the fx chain drop out like you mentioned, but I have no indication that plugin pack is culprit...

Are we talking Satishs's plug-ins not the plug-in pact from Sonic Foundry?
BillyBoy wrote on 12/29/2002, 7:36 PM
Yep, BUT it just could be I didn't notice a problem before adding that plug-in to Vegas, so it could be what caused it and just as well could not be caused by that, as Trichome mentioned, but for sure, something ain't right. with FX filters disappearing and changing the FX box from green back to gray with the filter still active.

Had a strange one, myself. I had inserted a few "Levels" into a few clips, something like 10. Then, I left and went home for the night.

The next day I came back and there were Levels in EVERY CLIP in the project. Most odd. I had to delete over 100 of them, one at a time. I had not used Satish's PlugInPac in this particular project.

Well I have had similar issues---I guess that tomorrow might be a good day to take off all the Debug Mode stuff and see if it solves the problem.

The only problem I've had is with previewing in scenes with 3DLE. I forget the dialog that comes up but it's some kind of terminal error that brings up that dialog box that asks if you want to report the problem to Microsoft. Vegas doesn't crash, but my preview stops, I have to get rid of the dialog boxes and start over. Sometimes if I change from draft to preview mode everything works fine, or vice-versa. Anyone else had this problem and know why?

Actually I had 3DLE crash a couple of days ago - it took Vegas with it if I remember correctly. I did have about 6-7 instances of it in the project, and maybe this didn't help! I reloaded the Vegas and the project and didn't have a repeat of the crash. It's a mystery....

I think there was some discussion a while back about this very thing and something was mentioned about RAM previewing being off while using 3DLE. My problem doesn't occur during RAM previewing but it might be related to what was discussed. I haven't been able to find anything with a search. I don't have a clue what Ram previewing has to do with it crashing but I'm certain something was said about it, so maybe someone who knows will deliver the goods and enlighten us.

Paul, I belive Satish himself stated that RAM preview must be disabled (set to 0) in order to use the 3DLE. I'm talking from memory but I'm sure I disabled RAM preview when I installed the pack.

Regards,

Paul.

I'm still in vacation, but if you are able to reproduce the problem then someone can send me a .veg project with steps on how to reproduce the problem... i can see if there is some issue with PluginPac filters. Use the "webmaster at debugmode.com" email id.

Thanks

Satish;

Just to be safe, is there some way that you can fix your plug-ins such that THEY shut off RAM Preview, as you recommended. Seems like many people forget as time passes, and it causes problems.
Paul_Holmes wrote on 12/30/2002, 1:31 PM
Ok, that was it! Thanks PDB. I'll make sure to do that next time. I vaguely remembered something about it but couldn't find a way to shut "off" Ram preview. So just set it to 0.

Satish:
Happy New Year, many thanks for your wonderful plugin pack and enjoy your vacation.
When you get back, would it be possible for you to purchase sofo if it is on the trading block?
I would feel much better if you owned the company rather than some outsider.
Think it over.
cheers

There is no direct interface for a VV plugin/filter to do that... that's why it is left to the user to shut off the RAM preview.
