Is QuickTime the culprit?

I am ready to throw my computer out the window!!!! I have been using this Vegas Movie Studio with no problems to speak of for the past couple of weeks. In the past few days I have not been able to render a video to the amount of MB's that I need (15 MB or less). I am not sure but I am starting to think that updating QuickTime is the culprit. Is this possible? If so what are the solutions? Help!

Tell us lots more about how you're trying to do this.

The finished file size depends on two and only two things ... the length and the bitrate. Nothing else matters. So, if you want to create a 15MB file from a video that is, say, one minute long, you can use a bitrate of 2048Kbits/second (combined audio and video). I think QuickTime may refer to it as bytes instead of bits, so that would be 256Kbytes/second. If the video is 4 minutes long then you would have to use 512Kbits or 64Kbytes/second.

What's the length of your video? What birates are you trying to use? Specifically, what indication or message do you get that it's not working where it used to work before?

Thanks to you both for responding. Since I am so new to this I hope I can give you the answers you need to be able to help me.

I am uploading from my digital camera and it is in the QuickTime format. The length of the video is slightly over 4 min. long. 41.01 MB (41,991,498 bytes). Does this help?

After rending the size is 40.8 MB (42,862,907 bytes).

The rendering gurus will be here later, but in the mean time, when you say you are rendering it, what format are you rendering it to .avi, .wmv, etc? From the file size you are talking about, are you looking to e-mail it? It's final purpose can be important in deciding what format to use. If you go to 'Make Movie' on your menu bar click 'Save it to your hard drive' it will bring up a menu. From there you can select the format, which when you change it will change the file size (look in the box that says 'estimated size' below), you can then change the template, and see how that changes the size and read the description below it, to give you an idea of what it is used for. Hi Cin,

I am trying to render it to .wmv format. I need to upload it to a website and the max file size they allow is 15 MB. I have been using the Make Movie function, save to hard drive in the .wmv format with no luck. What I find so interesting is in the Make Movie it shows the estmated file size after rending right under 15 MB but the end result does not reflect that at all. I feel like I am banging my head against a wall. Thanks for your help.

I tried to duplicate your problem, but can't :( I made a file with .mov clips only, went to 'make movie', save to hard drive, format to .wmv, it estimated it at 10.46 GB, and after it was done rendering the actual file size was 10.6GB. What does it show as the estimated size of your project, and what is the actual size when you are done rendering? What version of Vegas Movie Studio are you using? Cin

You are the best for trying to help me figure this out.

Before rendering the file is 41.01 MB (41,991,498 bytes)

Estimated size after rendering is 15.21MB

Actual size after rendering is 40.8 MB (42,862,907 bytes)

How strange is that?

I will quit bugging you after this, but what operating system are you using, how old of a computer do you have, CPU speed, RAM, etc.? Have you been able to render down other formats, so that it is only QuickTime? Sorry not more help. Cin

Cin you are not bugging me at all. I am very greatful you are trying to help me. I am using XP, computer is not a year old yet, pentium 4 processor. I have not tried any other formats. I will do that and let you know.

Hi Cin or anyone else that can help,

I tried other formats and am still having the same problem. .avi was estimated 5.87 mb it ended up being 33.3 mb. Help Please Anyone!
