Is there a "move to" option for clips on the timeline?

Beldave wrote on 4/26/2024, 1:55 PM

Essentially I have a template with a set of intro/outro clips that I drop new footage in between. Depending on the length of the new footage, I need the outro clips to move to the end. I've grouped them, but as of now I only know to click one of them and drag it all the way to the end using the normal edit tool. This is time consuming because I have to zoom in a touch to the timeline to be able to click the outro clips and select them, rather than the program thinking I'm trying to adjust the fade in/out, etc.

@Beldave How about putting your set of intro/outro clips in a nested timeline,

Here I have a couple of pics with a border added. this is the nested event opened.

Place that nested event beyond where you think your longest video will be on your template, then you can just right click Close Gaps.

This is the main timeline, a couple of short vids on the left, the nest is to the far right where the cursor is,

Close Gaps shifts this nest up to the videos end.

What about ripple editing?

@jetdv Hi, that's prob an easier solution. 👍

Lol - I knew of ripple editing, but thought of it as a systemic system that sort of progressed linearly. Never occured to me that I could just simply drop something in between the intro/outro and let the system move the outro automatically. Thank you both so much!!

@Beldave how about marking @jetdv as the solution?

If you haven't used Ripple before, please be aware that there are 3 Ripple action choices selectable via the arrow just to the right of the Ripple icon in the tineline toolbar. Unfortunately, the default is not set to all (the bottom of the 3 options).

Right on - would have probably missed this!
