Is there a stand-alone script that "freezes" an event at cursor?

Just wondering. I know this definitely dips into the realm of "lazy," but it would be nice to just hit an icon instead of right-clicking on the event and navigating the dropdown...

Actually there is an Event icon available for freeze framing. Take a look into the Event's hamburger menu.
