Anyone know of a way to lock a region. I have 28.30 and I seem to be wasting time when ripple all is on. I don't want to mess up anything if I move and just affected tracks is rippled.
1- I cut individual scenes and even very complex areas - with many tracks - in separate VEG files. I then "Render to New Track" and save the render as a completed element in a special folder I call "PreRenders".
2 - I add the "PreRendered" pieces to a separate "final" VEG called "YourTitle - Final-1". That VEG is a very simple affair of only one video track and one audio track. Since it is all prerendered, it re-renders to MPEG or any other format you like, very quickly. Sometimes I'll do titling and sub-titling on this VEG.
The point is - there are NO ripple issues with this system.
I can't stand working on a long project (let's say over 30 minutes in length) and finding at the very end, that a ripple at the beginning of the project has knocked sync out or displaced titles or certain special effects. My method keeps even the most complex of edits in line.
BTW - in Vegas 6 you can insert metadata in your renders so that you can right-click the prerender and reopen the original VEG. It's exactly like editing using stacked VEG files w/o a lot of the aggravation of that "not quite there (for me)" process.
But everyone has their own way of working, I guess...
