Is there a way to soften the start/stop of zoom?

I have a still photo that I am zooming in on but, because the overall zoom has to happen fairly quickly to stay in time with the music, the motion comes out as being a little jerky. Is there some way to soften the beginning and ending of the zoom?

I'm assuming you mean that you want to change the rate of the zoom. You could do this very easily in Vegas by applying a velocity envelope.

In VF, try this. Have two seperate events, a slow zoom from a distance, then a close-up slow zoom. Then use a dissolve transition to join the two. It's not exactly what you wanted, but the effect should look nice.
