Is there an economical way to store BIG files??

I'm looking for ideas as to how I can store the rendered AVIdv file after I have finished producing to tape. I am positive that I will have people coming back to me in the future asking for another copy of some old project, and I don't want to have to re-create the whole thing from scratch.

I usually produce an MPEG version of whatever I send to tape, but that isn't really a solution here, due to the quality loss.

Has anyone found a way of storing 20-25 gig files without breaking the bank?

the best way I know is to store it on a DV tape. Then reload that tape to make more copies.

Another way is to buy a removable harddrive (or another harddrive with an external firewire/USB adapter) and save the movie to that. Not necessarily economical unless you can bill it to someone else.

Yeah......... I was thinking that this issue was probably the one that would force me to upgrade to a better camcorder. Right now, when one of our group want some of their digital source captured, I tell them to leave their camera, or hang around for a couple of hours: It looks like those days are over!
