Is there any recommended size for photographic ima

Greetings this is my first post on this forum.

I’m using Vegas Movie StudioHD 9, to produce videos for YouTube using JPEG photographs and I've been searching for information about the best size for preparing the images prior to adding them to a video a track.

The images from the still camera are 4000 x 3000 px, which is to large for editing so I’ve resized them to 1280 x 720 72 dpi which seems to work OK. My PC can handle this size when editing.

My understanding is it does not matter how big the images are as they will be compressed during rendering and it is probably best to have a higher definition images to maintain the HD quality.

The render settings are Sony AVC MPG4 1280 x 720.

I would be grateful if anyone can comment on this, have I got it right? Also Is there any recommended size for photographic images for HD video?

Yes, the program usually can down-rez your photos to video resolution -- but this can take a lot of time on larger photos and computers can often choke on the process.

For standard def video, I usually recommend that photos be no larger than 1000x750 pixels in size.

For hi-def, you can go as high as 2000x1500 -- but know that photos this size will take a bit longer to render. (On the other hand, so will hi-def video, whch is why I also recommend a quad core or i7 processor when working with AVCHD video.)
