Is there any way of opening 8 files in 7?

I am trying my best to work with Vegas 8 at this point, but it keeps crashing. I've tried any number of things, but it keeps going down, often taking my computer with it, often on startup. I have submitted error messages and want to help in any way I can, but in the meantime, I have a more practical problem.

I need to start a new job, which means I will likely use Vegas 7 and I also need to rework some files that have already been converted to Vegas 8.

Question - is there a way I can open Vegas 8 in Vegas 7? Is there any "save as" I can do in 8 (if I can get it open) that I can then use to create a more stable Vegas 7 file?

I have no desire to go back to either FCP or Avid; I like VV for what I'm doing, so I'm hoping there is some way I can work with some of the VV8 files I have until they work out some of the bugs in Vegas 8.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

No there is not. You may be able to export an EDL list and import that into Vegas 7. You may lose a few things along the way but the base project should be there.

Sorry but Vegas isn't backwards compatible, only forward.
What you can do is open your V8 project, select everything (Ctrl+A), copy it (Ctrl+C), switch to V7 and do a paste (Ctrl+V).
As I recall, some things (keyframes, some FX??) won't copy over but you will get most of it.
HTH.

I know this doesn't help your situation but every time there is a major upgrade I copy all my projects into a backup folder specifically in case I need to use them with an old version. So in my "Vegas-projects" folder I have subfolders "copies-for-Vegas7" and "copies-for-Vegas 6" etc.. Project files are small so it's not a problem and i've been accessing the Vegas7 folder a lot recently.

Nick,
Excellent suggestion, which I will do religiously from here on in. The good news is, I actually did a file search and have a number of older files in 7, some of which can form the basis of rebuilding my VV 8 files that will not open without crashing.

I have successfully created an EDL in V8 as Edward suggests and opened it in V7. The main thing that was lost was track motion but most of the project stayed intact.

You can preserve even more of the details (fades, pans, markers, regions, etc) if you use the Export XML and Import XML scripts to transfer things from V8 back to V7.

But unfortunately even the XML files don't contain the Track Motion information.
