Is there any way to make this text transition only appear in one area?

VP 15 It's difficult to describe so I made a video showing the process I'm going through- . I'm trying to make it so a particular text transition (basically a pan) won't make the text go outside of a specific area. The method I'm currently using "works" but it's very annoying trying to get it right and even when I get it to an acceptable level (after too much time messing with it) and I'd think there'd be a FAR easier way of doing this, like being able to mask the track for example (although I tried to look that up and couldn't find anything). Any help getting this done quicker (and hopefully easier) is much appreciated.

You have to use a Parent/Child config with a mask. I will try to make a video demo, but it will take some time.

Okay, I appreciate your help.

This is one way of achieving what I think you are trying to do. This is on Version 12 but all versions work the same. Sorry, I normally use two monitors so it gets a bit crowded on one screen. I hope this helps.

THANK YOU. This is great and will save me SO much time in the future. I've only messed with compositing child/parent stuff a couple times so I keep forgetting it even exists. This'll make it so much easier for the transitions I do though. :)

Another way to do repeatable graphics is to create projects that can be nested into your main project. Then, you don't have to have the complexity in you main project.

Here is a project that I created to approximate your goal. It looks like this:

1) In your main project, insert a track above your main video.

2) Insert my graphics project on the new track.

3) Use Track Motion or event Pan/Crop to resize and place the text into position.

You can reuse this project by changing the text and renaming as many times as you need.

You can also use @Former user's method by saving as a sub-project and nesting.

Edit: Updated project to run at project frame rate and color scheme.

Another method you can try... may be faster and easier for you as no masks are required. Use the track motion to size your text to the size it needs to be, then use event pan/crop to move it around. If you move the text beyond the boundaries of the track motion settings when using video event pan/crop, it will automatically crop the text (or whatever else is on the track) as soon as it hits the boundary. Then you can use keyframes to animate the text moving, and it will crop once it hits the boundary.
