Is there video loss in what I am doing?

Hi People,
I created a vacation movie in Movie studio. THis movie is in two parts due to the total lenth (1hr 38 min).
I have save as 720*480 and rendered both parts in mpep2. I have sucessfully made dvds on these parts 1&2 via Sony achitect.
Now here is my question. I DO have dual layer DVDV burner. I want to combine both parts (the 2 mpeg2's) into Movie studio. After i do this I have to render again to mpeg2 (?). Is there a loss doing it this way?
I have tried to make dual layer dvds twice this way and both are failures. THe media is Memorex (which I am not familiar with as for quality). I usually use verbatim or Sony dvds witch I find flawless (for single layers).
So really I have three questions ,,,,,render as,,,,,Memorex dual layer quality, and the possible loss issue.
Regards and many thanx,
John

<Render as>
Has to be Mpeg2 to be a DVD

<Memorex quality>
Most reports seem to be to stay away from Memorex.

<Quality loss>
Any time you rerender you lose quality. This would be an especially big hit if its Mpeg2 to Mpeg2

edit: I should add especially in 'lossy' codecs
