Is this possible in Vegas?

Many times I have still images scaled to say quarter screen with video behind. I would like to apply transitions to the scaled images but it always applies the transition to the image in a full screen way which looks amaturish. Meaning... if I apply a page peel it will start at the top corner of the full screen instead of the top corner of the scaled image.

Is this a Vegas limitation? Will this ever be possible in Vegas?

Marc - good news ...

It's possible right now - use Track Motion for your quarter screen pieces, and any transitions will occur at that size.

That's great. I still see a problem however. Now the page peel is limited within the scale of the picture. I would like the page peel to affect the picture only but have freedom of movement around the whole screen. Instead you it cuts off when it reached the track motion scale size. Am I asking too much?

Sorry Marc - not quite with you - using Track Motion you can have a "frame within a frame" of any size at any position - what exactly do you want the page peel to do?

Sorry I'm finding it a little hard to explain. What happens is this. I put a still image on the timeline and use track motion to scale it to quarter screen and put it in the center. I then apply a two second page peel. Let's say the page peel start at the top left corner and peels to the bottom right. It starts at the top left fine but when it comes to the bottom the transition cuts off within the scaled size of the picture. I would like the page peel to continue off to the bottom of the screen as it would look more natural. If you try it you'll see what I mean.

Marc, it comes down to rectangles.

There's Rectangle A - the whole frame, and as you found when you first posted, using Pan/Crop to make the smaller frame (Rectangle B) means the page peel still happens within the larger rectangle.

Using Track Motion means you can make the page peel occur within the smaller Rectangle B.

What you seem to be asking for is to start the Page Peel at the top left of Rectangle B and finish in the bottom right of Rectangle A.

I'm afraid I don't know how to do this - maybe some fancy 3D effect will come close.

Personally I think seeing the Page Peel happen completely within the smaller rectangle looks great!

Ok, thanks Peter. That's exactly what I'm asking for. Hopefully SF will add this capability to the next version as it also looks great and opens up some interesting possibilities. I just tried it in Boris effects version 5 and it works the way I am asking it to. I guess Red will be one option if I want to do it in Vegas but that's a spendy solution.

Maybe you could try this.. reading your posts this is what I would try...

in rectangle B (little screen) -- start the page peel, make a keyframe for beginning and ending. In rectangle A (whole screen) make exactly the same effect, with identical keyframes, but adjust the first keyframe so that it starts when the peel comes to the bottom of the little screen and takes over the effect from rectangle B.

I can't try it here at work but if I were at home I'd give it a try..
